Blog #4: Rethinking the Revolution
1. The American Revolution lasted more than 8 years and many lives were lost as a result, with a estimate of 30,000 Americans.
2. The Constitutional Convention and the American Revolution are the two most written about US events by historians.
3. Many loyalists would be captured, taken as prisoners, or even brutally murdered. In 1781, Colonel Henry Lee had 90 loyalists killed and in 1780, Tartleton's massacre occurred.
4. Invading Canada proved to be a difficult task for the Americans for they encountered many struggles, like running low on food and clothing. George Washington and Nathaniel Greene both expressed the severity of the situation, by further emphasizing the lack of necessities.
5. The Vietnam War was the first televised war and although it allowed Americans to experience it's goriness, it also normalized it for them.
I included a picture of a cameraman filming the war in Vietnam, and another of a news channel reporting the endless school shootings. They relate due to the fact that they are both informing the general public about these terrible events, but it’s reached a saturation level where it may not phase the audience anymore.
