"Blog #3: Declaration of Independence

1.  List the democratic principles discussed in the opening.
The Declaration of Independence first starts off by clearly stating that all men are created equal and have certain unalienable rights. Those rights include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which are protected by the government. The government's power comes from the people, who have the right to alter its' form if it endangers them.

2.  List 5 grievances the colonists were making the King aware of.
After the introduction, the Declaration of Independence continued on by listing several grievances against the King. He has an issue with consent, for he has taxed the colonists without their consent and kept armies among them without the legislature's consent. He also selfishly prevented them from trading with other nations, taken away charters, and even burned down their towns.

3.  Summarize what the final paragraph is saying.
Representatives from each of the 13 colonies signed the document on behalf of the United States of America and declared their independence from Britain. The colonies are now free and independent states, fully able to establish peace, start wars, make allies, and enact other decisions that they are entitled to.
